No - this is the other shoe

It was less than a week ago that I wrote this post, regarding our current home. I've also previously written about wondering if/when the other shoe would drop. It has now landed.

I got a call a few hours ago from the property manager of our condo that the condo has been put up for sale by the owner. I have a lease, which will have to be assumed, through July 31, but chances are, we'll be moving that day.

I am so sad. And scared. And wondering if I was a Nazi in a previous life for all the bad karma I seem to be working off this lifetime.

If you read that previous post, then you know how much this place felt like a real home to us. It's sad enough to lose that. Then to add to it, the stress and anxiety of finding a new place to live, that's affordable, that's in the right area of town, that will hopefully mean Riley not having to change schools again, obviously that will not interfere with KIPP...And of course, I can't even start looking right now because it's too soon. I'm obligated to the lease as well.

Is it too much to ask just have things stay the same?!? In my case, apparently, yes.

I'm sorry. :(

Is buying it an option??

Actually, I think you do have a right to look. I'm pretty sure in most states, when a leased property is being sold, the current tenant has a right to find a new home at the time of notification. I could be wrong, but there are a lot of apartments being turned into condo's here and there are some special rules. I just talked to my coworker (who just moved OUT of California) and he concurs.

That said, I'm so sorry you are having to leave that place. That's really a shame, I did read that entry.

Maria - I think I'm about $20k short (give or take a few) of being able to afford it, but I am trying to stay open to that possibility. I wouldn't buy it at what they're asking now, and chances are, no one else will, either, and maybe in a few months, I'd have a shot. But it's a very iffy possibility.

Natalie - Yeah, someone else offline told me that as well, but at the same time, it'd be better for the girls as well if I waited until the end of the school year. I just hate being in limbo. I suck at limbo!!

Oh, I'm SO sorry. I read that post and I loved it. I was so happy for you to be able to live in a place that meant so much to you.

Any chance that the new owners will still want tenants?

I'm so sorry to hear that - Especially given how moving and wonderful your post about that place was.

Buying it seems like the best option if you can swing it. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Stay open to all options, talk to a mortgage broker about what would be required to buy it - you do not have to pay until you actually sign the mortgage. Start at least checking listings of apartments in the areas you would like to be just so that if/when you have to move you know what the market is like.

I'm very sorry that after you found the right place for you to be that this happened! Feel free to email me and we can commiserate about insufficient living arrangements/options.

You already know how I feel about the whole situation, and all I can say is breathe; the answer will come.

Oh sweetie, I'm so very sorry to hear that. You were so stoked on the place, too. My heart goes out to you and the kids and I really hope you can find another place to call home. Rushing around to find a place and move sucks so much. ((HUGS))
