Emotional

Much to celebrate. Unfortunately, this historic night is not all a celebration.

This historic night includes the first time I've seen the state of California actually ADD discrimination to our constitution, and I'm a bit sick about it.

I hope that something miraculous changes, and that I don't see this state that I love take such a huge step backwards, but Obama's election gives me hope that this will not stand. That progress, that hope, that treating people EQUALLY will prevail.

Yes, we can. And we WILL overcome this obstacle.

*I've amended this post as I listened to Obama's speech again. This is a setback. We'll be okay. I will allow myself this joyful time.*

Girl, tonight I am celebrating this win. Tomorrow I get pissed about the passing of our stupid ass propositions.

I am mad.

I am angry.

I am sick and damn tired of these assholes dictating other people's lives.

I'm still waiting for final results on Prop 8.

Praying/hoping/hoping against hope that California will reflect the other goodness of the night.

I'm over the moon about the Obama win. As you know.

If we have brothers and sisters who can't get married, though, we still are so limited in our freedoms in this country. How can people not get that?

My own home state of Florida passed a similar amendment... I am disappointed and angry.

What we have here is RELIGION dictating secular policy and it is everything our Constitution is against. It MUST be overturned as unconstitutional. This is a reason to continue to do all we can to SECULARIZE EVERYTHING that has to do with rights and responsibilities
...take God OUT of everything secular because it does NOT belong there...period.

Joy to the world that we have our President Obama!

I can't even believe there are that many ignorant, homophobic people still out there. I guess it was too much to hope that everything went right last night.

But I'll take Obama's win for now!

What is happening? My state, Virginia, demonstrated a positive change by voting in a second Democratic senator and voted for Obama. And the progressive state, California, voted for more repression. Does there always need to be a balance, can't we have it all the way we want it to be?

I could NOT BELIEVE that passed! I was so happy 48 was defeated in my own state, I figured the rest of the country would be a sweep. My poor friend was crying on the phone.

At least we have a president who knows where its at. Tolerating discrimination is at its end!

I find this to be highly annoying as well! Dang it! Like Jeff said it was too much to ask for and like pisceshanna said at least the abortion props got defeated. I think there was an abortion prop in one of the Dakotas that got defeated as well.

Doing a little blog wandering and landed here. I don't think that proposition 8 will stand long - the tide is too strong against it. I live in a much more conservative area, and even here peole are slowly (okay, glacially slowly!) coming around to the idea that equality matters. I'm hopeful, anyway.

I agree with Citizen of the World. It's only a matter of time. Maybe what we need is another Will and Grace TV show...I dunno.

Bizarre juxtaposition, that's for sure. There's a real wave though, it likely won't last ... let's hope.
